DON KACHUR

Donald S. Kachur is Professor Emeritus of Education from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education at Illinois State University (ISU), Normal, IL and Executive Director Emeritus of the Illinois Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (Illinois ASCD). Don's leadership as Executive Director of Illinois ASCD for more than 25 years led the organization to grow in membership and exemplary programs.  As a result of Don's efforts, Illinois ASCD received many awards and was recognized by ASCD as an Outstanding Affiliate.  He previously served as the Director of Research Services and Grants in the College of Education at Illinois State University from 1983-1999. He also served as interim chair of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and interim chair of the Department of Educational Administration and Foundations during his tenure at ISU.  He brings to the consulting field a strong background in both the education and business fields in the areas of leadership, strategic planning, team building, group facilitation, communications, instructional and curricular design, meeting design planning, grant writing, performance evaluation, program evaluation, and professional development. 

Don has been a workshop trainer for the Illinois Administrators Academy (a middle management training series of professional development opportunities offered statewide in Illinois for public school administrators) since 1985, as well as more recently a workshop presenter for the Illinois Principals Association (IPA).  He presently serves as a facilitator of planning, working over the past fifteen years with such groups as the McLean County Health Department, Joliet Junior College Board of Directors, St. John’s Lutheran Church Council (Bloomington), Illinois State University College of Education, Susan G. Komen Foundation Board of McLean County, Economic Development Council of McLean County, Wilco Area Career Center, Grundy Youth Council, Department of Human Resources at State Farm Corporate, South Cook Intermediate Service Center 4, the Community Hospital of Ottawa, Capitol Area Career Center, as well as a vast number of school district boards and school community groups.

From July 1996 through 2003, Don had served as an executive consultant at State Farm Corporate. He worked particularly with Corporate HR in the planning and delivery of the Advanced Management Seminars (AMS).  Don also served as a certified trainer with Motorola, Inc. for their formerly offered Leadership Development Institutes (LDI) for School Superintendents and Executive Leadership Institutes (ELI) for school principals. These were management training programs that focused on Visionary Leadership, Collaborative Team Building, Strategic Thinking, and Championing Change. 

He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) and is active in the National Staff Development Council (NSDC), Phi Delta Kappa (PDK), American Society for Training and Development (ASTD), and the International Association of Facilitators (IAF). He holds his bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees in Education from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana.
